Ceuta Melilla

February 2012: We have updated the lists with the new population data published by the National Statistics Institute at the end of December, in addition to incorporating the 12 new municipalities with more than 5,000 inhabitants into the lists of 'yes' and 'no'.

Our objective: an evangelical testimony in every municipality of more than 5,000 persons by the year 2012.  [We use the term "testimony" instead of "church" because with the latter there are important differences in criteria and use within the evangelical community (how many members are needed, which requirements are necessary, etc.).]

Investigating the needs of the work in Spain has always been an important field of work for Decision.  Only with up-to-date information is it possible to be aware of need and awaken the missionary vision.  Decision keeps up-to-date a database of the municipalities without an evangelical testimony in Spain and advises the churches and the missions about pioneer work, challenging believers to have a passionate commitment for the extension of the Kingdom of God.

Latest Statistics (February 22, 2012)
Municipalities of more than 5.000 inhabitants Those that do have testimony Those that do not have testimony
1,320 996 (75%) 324 (25%)

For our statistics, we say that there is a testimony when there is a minimum of three adult persons meeting in regular "worship services" and with a plan and evangelistic action to reach the area.

Special cases:

1. If it is a municipality where a mission or another church has plans to start a work and is already making visits and regular evangelistic efforts, we say that there is a testimony (for example, Alpedrete in Madrid).

2. If it is a municipality without its own testimony but borders another municipality which has an established church within five kilometers of the boundary between them, we say that there is a testimony, with a pound/hash sign (#) (for example, Benetússer in Valencia).  There are currently 230 municipalities labeled in this way.

3. If it is a municipality where there is only a gypsy church/work, we say that there is not a testimony, with an asterisk (*) (for example, Alfaro in La Rioja).  It's because although we greatly admire the fantastic evangelistic work among our gypsy brothers, in the sense of our calling and objective to reach the "payos" (non-gypsy Spaniards), we do it this way, because it is still a municipality in need of a work directed at non-gypsies.

To see the statistics and the lists of municipalities without testimony, click on the map.  There is one page for each of the 17 autonomous communities, plus a page for the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla; once you have entered into an autonomous community, you will be able to move from province to province.  In addition, there is a page with summary tables of the data and statistics for all of the autonomous communities/cities and provinces.

The population statistics have been updated in reference to January 1, 2011 (data released by the National Institute of Statistics at the end of December 2011).

The categories, i.e., the municipalities with and without testimony, are updated continually.  Therefore, if you encounter an error in these pages, please inform us at decision@e-decision.org.
